I normally don’t usually do this, but today my heart is honestly breaking. I usually do not cry when I see a passing of celebrity, but not today. Adam West was more than just an actor to a lot of different people. Adam West was a part of all of our lives. To some people he will be known as the fun loving mayor of Quahog on the hit animated show Family Guy. However, to a lot of us, he will always be known as our introduction to the caped crusader. To a lot of us Adam West will always be Batman. His portrayal of the character will always be part of geek lore. I was able to sit in on two panels with him and Adam Ward. The first time allowed me to have a moment that I will be cherish for the rest of my life. I was sitting fumbling around with my camera when an older gentleman in a hat came and sit down next to me. I thought nothing of this when it happened because crowds will usually grow the closer to starting time. The man proceeded to ask me if I was a huge fan of Batman. And not thinking anything of it, I answered with a huge yes. I even went in on discussing my love for episodes with The Riddler. And then in the words that made me fangirl so hard that I felt bad for the person who had to clean up. I hear the gentleman say that he loved Batman too. And I looked up from fumbling around with my new lens. The voice was very familiar to me, but I didn’t think anything of it. It was not until I looked up when I realized Batman himself was sitting next to me. Adam proceeded to tell me not get that excited, because I would give away his entrance. And he asked about some of my of my favorite episodes. The moderator was began introductions, and when he was announced, he shook my hand and said “thank you, kind citizen!” And in that moment I knew what it was like to meet your childhood idols and it be the most memorable thing ever. We hold our childhood heroes in hearts forever. Our childhood heroes are more than athletes, musicians, and actors are apart of our family. They may not be blood, but they are just as important to us as anyone else. When we lose one of our heroes, our hearts break and we mourn. Today, we mourn the loss Adam West, no matter what happens, he will always be the one true caped crusader. Heaven needed a hero, so God shined the bat signal.
About the author
I am Richard and I have a problem. A problem with entertaining people. I have been in the comedy world for over 10 years. I started out as an improv actor making fun and light of everything. Doing that felt rewarding, but I have to admit, I wanted more. I couldn’t get the taste of performing out of my mouth. Does that not sound a little creepy? I decided to start doing my own stand up show. I love to make fun of my family and anything that will make a normal person say what the fuck. The journey still continues, in 2009, I had a dream to create my own online magazine. This is the beautiful corner of craziness in front of you. I have been through hell in my life but being stopped is something that I will not let happen. I am a fighter and hope to make people realize it is ok to smile and think from time to time. It also helps being a nerd.
