I do not remember exactly when the term “girl crush” became a thing. It had to be almost ten years ago. I do remember thinking that it was really stupid. Are heterosexual women so scared of acknowledging another woman’s beauty or talent that they can’t just say I love so and so? Anyway, hearing that term all those years ago caused me to ask myself who would be my celebrity “girl crush”. The answer was Scarlett Johansson. Several years have passed since then. I still hate and refuse to use the term “girl crush” with the exception of writing this article. The list of women that I admire for their beauty and talent has grown substantially and Scarlett Johansson is still on that list.

Scarlett Johansson grew up in New York City. She knew from an early age that she wanted to act. She made her acting début at eight years old in the off-Broadway production of “Sophistry” with Ethan Hawke. Following this, she did commercials and had some minor roles in films. People finally began to notice Scarlett’s talent after her performance in the film “The Horse Whisperer”. After that, her career took off.

Between acting and voice work, Scarlett has been involved in 56 films, TV shows, Broadway productions, and off-Broadway productions to date. The first thing that I would have seen her in would have been “Eight Legged Freaks” released in 2002. Since that time, she has played the girl next door (“The Nanny Diaries”), a calculating seductress (“The Other Boleyn Girl”), a badass marksman and weapons specialist (Natasha Romanova/Black Widow in the Avengers movies), and many other roles. I am impatiently waiting for the film “Ghost in the Shell” which is a Japanese anime made into a live action movie. Scarlett plays the main character, The Major. This movie is scheduled to be released in 2017.

Over the course of her acting career, Scarlett has been nominated and has won multiple awards, including a Tony award for her role in Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge”. She has been on multiple “sexiest celebrities” lists. She has been voted most beautiful in many countries around the world on multiple occasions. A French band, The Teenagers, even wrote a song about her called “Starlett Johansson”. I think it is pretty safe to say that Scarlett Johansson is appreciated by the majority of people.

So, Scarlett, you were the first woman who I put on my mental list of celebrities that I love. You have a classic, timeless beauty that I will always find attractive. Not to mention that you are a talented actress as well. Welcome to the TBK Hall of Hotties!
