The Hall of Hotties: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
Who said Halloween has to end? I don’t think it is any secret that I am a fan of cheesy horror movies. I love B movies. The cheesier the better. There is just something about terrible acting with a murder that looks like a high school drama teacher’s on-stage wet dream, that will somehow get the blood going. During the 60s, 70s, and 80s, these movies started popping up in late night weekend television. If you are a young child at this time, chances are the first time you had the shit scared out of you was a movie hosted by a Vampire, or a Zombie, or a Mummy, or by the next induction into the Hall of Hotties.
Los Angeles in the 1980s was looking for a new host to do their Fright Night horror movie show. The network executives searched high and low before they were left shouting, HOLY BOOB!!!! And thus, the legend of our next hottie was born, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. A punk vampire with a love for the weird. I am not sure you couldn’t get any more 80s if you freakin’ tried. She became such a hit in the LA area, they started releasing home videos with her hosting some of the B level movies that would go down in infamy, or in a blaze of glory on MST3K. Seven years after getting the role that would change her life forever, she was cast in her very own movie which is a cult favorite. She has guest starred on a ton of your favorite shows including Rupaul’s Drag Race and was even a commentator at Wrestlemania 2. Elvira is a horror sex symbol who was able to make you laugh. I am not sure there is a deadlier combination on this planet.
