The Hall of Hunks: Dylan O’Brien
Dylan O’Brien started his acting career at the young age of 14 as a YouTube star. As his episodes progressed, a local producer and director approached him in his senior year of high school to do some professional level YouTube videos. He graduated from high school in 2009 and was set to attend Syracuse University in the fall as a sports broadcasting major. However, he changed his mind to pursue acting.
Dylan O’Brien got his first role as Stiles Stilinski in MTV’s Teen Wolf series in 2011. When he went to audition, he original planned to go for the main character, Scott. However, once reading the script, he changed his mind and decided that he was better suited for the part of Stiles. Stiles, who is the main character’s best friend, is a sarcastic, intelligent, slightly nerdy, nice-guy-finishes-last type character. O’Brien portrayal of this is spot on. At this point, he has been in 80 episodes.
In between production of Teen Wolf, O’ Brien has been busy with other projects. His movie credits include “High Road”, the voice of Charlie Brown in “Charlie Brown: Blockhead’s Revenge”, “The First Time”, “The Internship” (where he also plays an adorable nerd), “The Maze Runner”, “The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials”, and “Deepwater Horizon”. He is also finishing up the filming on “American Assassin” and “The Maze Runner: The Death Cure”.
He has been nominated and won multiple awards for his performances in both film and TV series.
Dylan O’Brien has been a celebrity crush of mine since he took on the role of Stiles. Anyone that knows me, knows that I have a love for sarcasm. I also cannot help but cheer for the guy that never gets the girl of his dreams. I have read a lot of negative opinions out there saying that people cannot call him a nerd. He is not deserving of nerd love. You cannot dress up a pretty guy, give him smartass words to say, and make him a nerd. I do not really understand where this negativity comes from. I love his character. See what I said there? CHARACTER. Stiles is a character. I love the character. The character and the person are not the same thing. I also happen to find the person, Dylan O’Brien, to be an attractive person and a talented actor. He has also played in moves that I have enjoyed. I have no doubt that he will continue to go on with his acting career. I will still be cheering for him then.
Dylan O’Brien, I do not care if you are a real nerd or just have a knack for playing one, welcome to the Hall of Hunks!
