It may only be February, but Rob Thomas has already set the bar at a level of epic proportions with the release of his latest single, “One Less Day (Dying Young).” Soaring to staggering new heights this time around, the future #1 hit is unquestionably the strongest contender for Song of the Year we’ve heard this year thus far. The first new music from the Matchbox Twenty front man since 2015’s The Great Unknown, is also the leading single from his forthcoming LP Chip Tooth Smile, which is available as of April 26th. There’s no doubt this new hit has all the potential to be one of, if not the biggest song of the singer-songwriter’s career.
Inspired by a conversation with Counting Crows front man (and good friend) Adam Duritz, Thomas’s uplifting new song is a celebration of getting older and not taking for granted each day we’re blessed to wake up on this Earth. A stunning mix of Avicii and Celtic style vibrations elevate the singer’s soul stirring lyrics as his powerful vocals transcend to another level, awakening something within our souls. Together with Butch Walker’s larger than life production, “One Less Day” is a haunting anthem for the brave and hopeful.
As Thomas sings the line “All my life I have been wandering/burning out my candle like my time just won’t end/and I keep burning til there’s nothing left/praying that tomorrow I can do it all again/and if I get tomorrow I will do it all again” his words ignite the flame within us all. He’s encouraging us to live our best lives driven by love, and challenging us to appreciate the life we’ve been gifted. “One Less Day” is the message we all needed to hear.
