Remember the episode of The Office where everyone is upset with Dwight and how he is running the building? In the episode Pam uses trying to find a new building as a leveraging point with Dwight. In the long run, it turned out to be a lie. But in the end, everyone got what they wanted. That is not what is happening in this situation. This is not a happy ending situation.
At the end of 2020, possibly the show binged the most on Netflix is leaving. The Office will leave the platform and move to the NBC/Universal platform starting in 2021. For many people, The Office has become the show that is in the background when wanting to do work around the house.
However, this may not be a good thing at all for Netflix users. NBC also currently owns Parks and Rec, Friends, 30 Rock, and The Good Place. These shows usually show up in the trending section of our Netflix accounts.
So, another streaming service? I am not sure that is the answer. The Office is one of the only shows not on the Hulu platform, so NBC gets the streaming rights is huge. But the question will need to be asked, can a show carry an entire platform? Even with NBC’s mega hits, fans constantly return to their favorite paper company. Only time will tell.
