20 Modern Rock Songs to Soundtrack Your Epic Halloween Adventure

If you ask me, Fall is the perfect time for epic adventures, and no epic adventure is complete without an appropriate playlist. With Halloween upon us, now feels like the right time to share with you all my list of songs I feel are perfect for any epic Halloween adventure you may be planning for. Don’t worry if you don’t have any Halloween adventures planned, though. This playlist works for any epic adventure planned in the Fall or Winter months. I might substitute a couple songs, depending on what exactly you have planned, but it all basically works the same.

I could have easily made this playlist much longer and added multiple songs by the same artist, but figured it was best to keep it simple for now. If you like what you see below, though, and want more suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me and I’m happy to share more songs with you I think are ideal for epic adventures. Whether you’re just driving around with your friends through the forest preserves or down some dark and creepy roads, or you’re venturing out somewhere more specific, like a cemetery or abandoned mental asylum in the middle of nowhere, the songs listed below have everything you need. Long drives into the abyss, hospitals, curses, poltergeists, zombies, monsters, the devil, you name it and I’ve covered it.

So, as you venture off into the darkness (because no epic adventure happens before the sun goes down), remember there are certain predicaments you may find yourself in that you’ll want to be prepared for. Some items I recommend you pack with you (because you can’t go on an adventure without an adventure bag) are the following: flashlights, portable charger, first aid kit, holy water, camera, baseball bat, and snacks. You’re also going to want to make sure you dress appropriately. I recommend wearing mostly black or dark colored clothing because you don’t want to make yourself stand out. Check the weather report because if it’s super cold, you’re going to want a scarf and maybe gloves. Epic adventures are not the time for fancy shoes and clothing you’re afraid of getting dirty. Running shoes or boots and comfy hoodies and/or jackets, and jeans or sweatpants, leggings/yoga pants are the best options.

Now that I’ve properly prepared you, you’re officially ready to hit play on the playlist below and embark on your epic adventure. Have fun and try not to die. Oh, and remember not to pick up any hitchhikers.

20) Black Veil Brides – In the End

*This is the anthem signifying your epic adventure has come to an end. If you’re all gonna die, you might as well go out in style, am I right?

19) The Used – Hospital

*Whether it’s open or abandoned, no epic adventure is complete without a trip to the hospital!

18) Alkaline Trio – Calling All Skeletons

*Because every epic adventure playlist needs a fun little tune with a line like, “There’s a party in my closet, calling all skeletons!”

17) AFI – Miss Murder

*Dark and emo with a sing-along chorus…what more do you need?

16) New Years Day – Poltergeist

*If one person doesn’t come back from your epic adventure possessed, did you even do it right?

15) Motionless In White – Voices

*Yeah, you’re probably going to need a straight jacket.

14) Escape the Fate – Zombie Dance

*It’s all in the title. Need I say more?

13) Skillet – Monster

*Word to the wise. Don’t piss off the guy with the anger issues. Chances are he’s secretly a werewolf.

12) Rob Zombie – Dragula

*Who better to accompany you through hell than the King of Horror himself?

11) Godsmack – Voodoo

*When it comes to epic adventures, one of you is bound to get cursed. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

10) Disturbed – Inside the Fire

*Someone will have to be sacrificed. Choose wisely.

09) Stone Sour – Say You’ll Haunt Me

*Memories to last you a lifetime…with the ghosts to prove it.

08) Lacuna Coil – Spellbound

*Whatever you do, don’t look ‘em in the eyes. It’s always a trap.

07) Within Temptation – The Howling

*Trust me, it’s NEVER just the wind.

06) Papa Roach – Getting Away with Murder

*Remember, though, who you kill is never really dead. They always come back, and usually with a vengeance.

05) Three Days Grace – Animal I Have Become

*Someone is going to get bitten. Werewolf, vampire…doesn’t matter. You ain’t comin’ back the same.

04) Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare

*Basically, you’re screwed. I hope you packed your flashlight and holy water.

03) Taproot – Calling

*You know that eerie song that always plays in a horror movie right as the characters are on their way, headed into the danger zone? This is that song. No one can save you now.

02) Halestorm – Daughters of Darkness

*The ultimate battle song, and who better to lead the fight than the badass herself, Miss Lizzy Hale?

01) Breaking Benjamin – Dance with the Devil

*If there’s one song that belongs on a haunted adventure playlist, it’s definitely this one. Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?

"MADD" Manda Walsh
Chicago native and Saint Xavier University alum (class of 2007), Amanda Walsh is an aspiring journalist with a strong passion for music and longtime love of writing. While in college, she spent her time volunteering as a radio DJ, working as the station’s Music Director, and serving as a regular contributing writer for the campus newspaper where she combined her love for music and writing. Between attending multiple concerts a month all over the city, interviewing various bands both in and out of the studio, and introducing her friends and show listeners to new artists (both local and national acts), it was during this time that Amanda really discovered her niche. Whether listening alone with her headphones or experiencing it live in person, music has always been Amanda’s safe haven and more like a religion, with concerts feeling more like going to church. Today the number of artist interviews under her belt continues to grow, as she strives to break new and up and coming artists before other outlets. She also continues to attend as many concerts as her bank account will allow. Her musical tastes range from “OMG you have to hear this” to “please don’t judge me,” and she is the person you want on your team in music trivia. She is also an avid enthusiast of the paranormal and anything in the realm of horror or the creepy and unnerving. With that said, she loves Halloween more than a normal person probably should and has a fascination with cemeteries. Aside from music and concerts, Amanda also enjoys reading, shopping and epic adventures. She's a sucker for a good mystery and anything acoustic. When she was a kid she wanted to be Nancy Drew when she grew up. At the end of the day, if she had to describe herself with a song lyric it would be this – “I’m somewhere in between what is real and just a dream.”
