The creators of the Game of Thrones David Beinoff and DB Weiss are not going to bring winter to a galaxy Far Far Away. The two were slated to create a new trilogy for the Star Wars franchise but as of yesterday, the two are no longer on the project. Beinoff and Weiss claim it is due to their Netflix contracts. The deal with Netflix is a reported $200 million. A question needs to be asked, could this be a move by Netflix in the great stream wars?
However, it may seem that the fandom is rejoicing at the pair leaving the Star Wars franchise. The final season of Game of Thrones left a lot to be desired for many fans of the series. And a lot of the blame is being placed on these two men. The difference in the first few seasons compared to the last couple are the duo were able to work from George RR Martin’s books. The final seasons of the show did not have the books to fall back on for the story.
The Star Wars franchise is about to hit the reset button. After episode IX releases in December, the Skywalker story is closed. Where does the franchise go from here? The man behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige is slated to behind an upcoming film, possibly more.
Is this a blessing in disguise? Possibly. However, Lucasfilms still would like to work with the duo in the future.
