As the Gaming editor for the site, it’s my job to cover all things gaming whether that’s reviews for new titles, or any sort of breaking news related to the subject. Well tonight my friends, I bring you a fairly big scoop. At The Video Game Awards currently being streamed on YouTube, Microsoft unveiled its next Xbox gaming console, and boy does it make a particular statement.
The latest console has been revealed to be called the Xbox Series X. It’s a huge departure in terms of the actual design of the unit itself. This thing looks more like a PC cabinet than a traditional gaming console. If I’m being completely honest, it really just looks like two GameCube’s stacked right on top of each other. Phil Spencer took to the stage to say that this will have at least 4x the processing power of the Xbox One X. Its CPU will be a custom designed AMD Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture. It will support 8K resolution gaming with an FPS of up 120 frames per second.
There’s also a very heavily circulated but not yet verified rumor that Microsoft is also planning a second console as part of this launch. This would be a cheaper version of the one Spencer unveiled at the Games Awards, this would be very much akin to the release of the Xbox One X and its less powerful sibling Xbox One S. There isn’t much else I’m afraid to report but I promise we’re keeping our ears to the ground and will be keeping you posted as more details emerge.
