I want to take this time to write all of you whether you may be a fan our site, someone finding us on social media, or someone telling you to look at this weird shit, this statement is for you.
Right now, the world is tackling an issue that none of us have seen before. And I can honestly say this whole thing is as surreal as surreal can get. Two weeks ago, when events started to be postponed in the United States, I did not what to feel. I wondered if this would become something that I would have think about. Like many of you, I knew of COVID-19, but kind of brushed it off.
All of that started to change when I would see news stories of the people of China put on a lockdown due to the virus. And then, much like anyone who has watched, played, or read anything about a virus knows, it spreads. Countries started to be in a fight with something they have never seen before. Cases spread in Italy so quickly, the entire country is on lockdown as I type this. And to our Italian friends, ti vogliamo bene.
Slowly, COVID-19 made its way to North America, and instead of looking at what happened to other nations of the world, we decided to almost ignore the issue completely. And now COVID-19 is starting wreak havoc in our everyday lives.
Something needs to be cleared up right now, this is not “like the flu” and this is not H1N1. Covid-19 is new. We do not have a defense against this virus as of right now. We are essentially fighting a boss battle without knowing any of the controls in a video game. The notion that this is just the flu or a cold need to be thrown out the window right now. A lot of people need to take off their tin foil hats and know not everything happening in the world is a conspiracy.
I do not have a fear of catching COVID-19. What I do have; is a fear that I will give the virus to someone I deeply care about. And because of my negligence, because I didn’t pay attention to the symptoms, because I was reckless, I would lead to someone deeply care about dying. And I think that is something we really need to start thinking about. I feel that like many of you that if any of us were the reason of our grandparents, parents, sisters, brothers, friend’s death, it would haunt us for the rest of our existence on this planet.
If you can stay home, Stay the eff home. If you have to go out and I do understand that you will, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, cough as if you are vampire trying to shield yourself from the sun so you will not glitter. The idea is to not overload our medical professionals. Those individuals are the first line of defense against this virus. We need them to be healthy to help us in this fight.
So, where does that leave us? A lot of time on our hands. Sports seasons have been suspended, concerts are postponed, and we are in our houses sitting on our couches either working or trying to find something other than The Office to binge. And good news is hard to find right now.
We want to give you a place to come on the internet that is not full of gloom. And while, we will have to report on cancellations of future of events, geek news affected by COVID-19, we do promise that we will try to give you content that will help you escape reality, even if it is just for a minute.
New Episodes of TBK Live will start tonight and hopefully we can make you laugh for minute. TBK Live’s sister show The Buzz will return as well, on the latest episode back we will discuss COVID-19 and everything going on. A real conversation about all of this is almost needed for the soul. The Brodie and Richard show will return with the weirdest topics you can think of, Striking A Chord will have new episodes, CineCrap will return this week. And this just our shows for this week.
We will be producing a lot of written content over this period of time. All of your favorites will return, short stories, More lists, NSFW content, things that haven’t been thought of yet, We going to try to keep your mind at ease and entertained.
One thing I plan on doing is helping out independent authors, artists, musicians, wrestlers, and vendors. COVID-19 put a hold on a lot of people’s lives. And a lot of individuals we have got to know over the past few years from attending comic conventions, concerts, interviews, wrestling shows, and things that I have forgot about because this week has been the longest year of our life.
I am making this our mission during this time; we will share with you as much as we possibly can when it comes to these independent artists. I want the world to be able to see the talent that we have had the honor and privilege of getting to see or know. You should expect articles about artists with links to where you can find their artwork. We will share music videos from independent musicians who are not able to be on tour so you can discover their awesomeness and we will have links where you can find their merchandise and music. We will share independent wrestling matches with links to their prowrestling tees store, and more. Our entertainment industry is taking a hit right now, and sometimes you don’t realize how much the independent scene is the backbone of that industry.
We are a small corner of the interwebs. But right now, we as content creators have to band together to help the world heal one step at a time. Be kind to one another, take care of each other, and remember to only by two packs of toilet paper at the most. Seriously, who is going to poop 185 times in 14 days?
