The First Look at The New Batmobile

Well today brings yet another peek behind the curtain of the production of Matt Reeves’ BATMAN and with it comes our first peak at the new Batmobile. This look comes at us via Reeves’ official twitter page and your mileage may vary depending on your feelings of any of the stuff that’s come out about this movie thus far.

Me personally, I’m not really a fan of any of it. The looks at Pattinson’s suit make it look like a buff boy’s wet dream version of Adam West’s old cape and cowl. I kinda dig the home-made vibe of it but the actual look leaves a lot to be desired. I guess we have to wait until we see the thing in motion, but as of right now it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

The new Batmobile looks generic and yet almost a carbon copy of Dean Winchester’s famous Chevy Impala. I understand that this is going to be a film about a Batman fairly new into his career as the caped crusader, and I kind of dig that idea to be honest. Me personally, my favorite version of the character is the Frank Miller version that’s well into his 60’s and blurs the lines a lot more than you’re used to. Ben Affleck’s turn in BvS mirrors this version perfectly and yes, I know he’s no longer playing the character, but I still cling to it as MY batman.

The Batman is a chameleon, he is many things to many people. So, I can’t take away from the people that are genuinely excited about what Pattinson and Reeves are cooking up with this iteration, but I still have concerns. The story and plot stuff they’ve been talking about all seems exciting on paper but the visual peek we’ve been given thus far all look like slash fiction fanboy bullshit. Pattinson has grown into his own as an actor so this isn’t a “but he’s a sparkly vampire” kind of thing. He just simply doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that would embody the brooding terror of The Batman. But… we as Batfans have been proven wrong in the past so I guess I’m ready to be proven wrong again. What do you guys think? Are you onboard with this particular Bat-asthetic we’ve been given a look at so far? Or do you think it’s a load of hog-wash and we’re headed towards a catastrophe of Batman Forever proportions? Sound off and let us know what you think.

I suppose my story begins(as most do) on the day of my birth. I mean, i’d like to sit here and tell you about the ticker tape parade that was thrown in my honor, or that my being vaginally farted into the world signaled a time of unbridled peace and love throughout the galaxy, but i will do my best to try and be humble about my epic origins. Truth is my real origin is as ordinary as apple pie. I was hobbled together from various body parts of criminals on death row who opted to be organ donors. I suppose you could say I’m the Bizarro six million dollar man (but judging by my appearance you couldn’t tell they spent more than a few shillings on me). In between being chased by townsfolk with pitchforks and torches opposed to the “abomination” of my existence i have developed a passion for writing. The only thing that can match such lofty desires would be a lifelong passion for film. I mean I’m quite nerdy about lots of things (video games, comic books, music, etc…) but cinema in all its shiny golden splendor has captured my attention more than anything else. It’s something I try to share with the world at large, as much as possible. I figure if i can find the magic in such things, maybe i can help others do so as well. I’ve written quite a few poems(mostly about my first few years as a dime store knockoff Mary Shelly creation) but have stuck to mostly movie reviews. I am quite elated to be able to relate my thoughts and opinions on all things film with those who take the time to read them. I hope to have a positive impact here on the site and am looking forward to not only working with the staff currently in place but being able to reach a wider audience as well. P.S. If some of my work comes off a bit sloppy and meandering, its just because the doctor responsible for the stitch job on my cranial cavity didn’t do that great job and my brain has fallen out of the hole in my head they used to pump blood into. Cheers Mates!!
