Well today brings yet another peek behind the curtain of the production of Matt Reeves’ BATMAN and with it comes our first peak at the new Batmobile. This look comes at us via Reeves’ official twitter page and your mileage may vary depending on your feelings of any of the stuff that’s come out about this movie thus far.
Me personally, I’m not really a fan of any of it. The looks at Pattinson’s suit make it look like a buff boy’s wet dream version of Adam West’s old cape and cowl. I kinda dig the home-made vibe of it but the actual look leaves a lot to be desired. I guess we have to wait until we see the thing in motion, but as of right now it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

The new Batmobile looks generic and yet almost a carbon copy of Dean Winchester’s famous Chevy Impala. I understand that this is going to be a film about a Batman fairly new into his career as the caped crusader, and I kind of dig that idea to be honest. Me personally, my favorite version of the character is the Frank Miller version that’s well into his 60’s and blurs the lines a lot more than you’re used to. Ben Affleck’s turn in BvS mirrors this version perfectly and yes, I know he’s no longer playing the character, but I still cling to it as MY batman.
The Batman is a chameleon, he is many things to many people. So, I can’t take away from the people that are genuinely excited about what Pattinson and Reeves are cooking up with this iteration, but I still have concerns. The story and plot stuff they’ve been talking about all seems exciting on paper but the visual peek we’ve been given thus far all look like slash fiction fanboy bullshit. Pattinson has grown into his own as an actor so this isn’t a “but he’s a sparkly vampire” kind of thing. He just simply doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that would embody the brooding terror of The Batman. But… we as Batfans have been proven wrong in the past so I guess I’m ready to be proven wrong again. What do you guys think? Are you onboard with this particular Bat-asthetic we’ve been given a look at so far? Or do you think it’s a load of hog-wash and we’re headed towards a catastrophe of Batman Forever proportions? Sound off and let us know what you think.
