Last week, we decided to take on the windy city and attend the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo better known as C2E2! And for the days we were able to attend, I can honestly say one thing, people. People as far as the eye can see. The crowd gathered from multiple states to take in one of the biggest conventions in the country. Growing up in a town of only 3,000 people, being among the masses can be a tad bit jarring. So, between the compliments about the carpet and starting and stopping constantly, we were able to take in some of what the convention had to offer in 2020. What were the Top 5 Highlights of C2E2 for me?
5 Marvel and DC
We have traveled to conventions all across the Midwest, and it seems surreal that up until this point, Marvel and DC are never present for the conventions we attend. Last weekend, all of that changed. Seeing the big two have booths at a convention was surreal for myself. Getting to see what would hit the market later in the year in terms of comics and collectibles, made Chicago feel special to myself. Plus, it did not hurt that on display would be statues at the DC booth. And not to be outdone Marvel displayed costumes from some of their biggest movie and TV franchises.
4 Creative Cosplay
Let’s talk about the Cosplay. I am a sucker for a good cosplay that is not traditional or a bit outside the box. And Chicago brought it in that department. My personal favorite of the weekend had to be Good Janet, Bad Janet, and Derek from The Good Place. Holy Forking Shirt, these three nailed the essence of those characters.
3 More Me Know
A few years ago, at Planet Comicon, we found a booth that we absolutely fell in love with. More Me Know is geeky clothing for all sizes, and sometimes at conventions it can be difficult to find plus sizes represented. It’s sad, because sometimes all you want to buy is a shirt, but no one carries a 3x. But, More Me Know has all sizes which honestly made my wife’s day. So, when we were walking around the convention floor taking in the lay of the land, we found More Me Know. And all three of us were gagged at the selection of fandom clothing, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. For the first time we were able to view the backpacks and purses, which may be the best quality I have ever seen for fandom products. I also want to add, a lot of her dresses have pockets. Ladies, I know you get the short end of the stick when it comes to pockets. Check out More Me Know on Facebook and buy something from their website.
2 Artist Alley
When walking through artist alley, I always get chills. One of the best parts about going to these events is seeing all the different styles from every artist. Some will put a smile on your face with feeling of nostalgia, while others will show the dark side of mental health. Each artist leaves their impression on each convention goer, myself included. And C2E2 had the biggest artist alley I have ever seen. I wanted to look at each artist and discuss their art all day long. Sharon highlighted a few these artists, and I am going to do the same. Check out Arielle Jovellanos, Any Means Necessary by Shawn Coss, Michael Nemitz, Camilla d'Errico and Hannako
1 All Elite Wrestling
I am a wrestling fan. I do not hide that fact from anyone anymore. I remember watching the episode of Dynamite when the announcement that AEW would be part of C2E2 weekend happened, and I felt glee. We were in attendance for All In in 2018 and seeing what happened since, it feels like we are part of a wrestling Revolution. Pun intended. During the weekend, AEW made their presence felt all over the building. Autograph signing with the some of the hottest names in pro wrestling, lines were long. Really long. Even one of our favorites cosplayed on the floor. AEW invaded C2E2 and for this fan it felt special. The feeling of being able to track this company since its genesis makes every show feel like the first. And that is something you do not get to feel often with entertainment. Also, those action figures are going to be hitting my shelf in the fall.
