Growing up Saturday nights became a television hotbed in my house. If my Mom had her way, we would be watching the Grand Old Opry and The Statler Brothers Show on TNN. And on those nights as a child I would be miserable. But if my Dad his way, we would be watching America’s Most Wanted and COPS. Growing up and even as an adult, I still enjoyed COPS and to a lesser extent LIVE PD.
Yesterday, Paramount cancelled COPS. Ironically, this would be the second time the show has been cancelled. FOX decided to not renew the show in 2013 only for the show to find a new home on SPIKE TV now Paramount. After, 33 years COPS will no longer be on the air, and it’s time. And I am going to put LIVE PD in the same conversation, while car crash reality television is fun to watch sometimes, for example the guy who had a joint behind his ear on COPS or the individual who took a dump in WALMART in Nevada on LIVE PD, those moments have us talking. But for every moment that made us laugh, we are met with something that leaves us uncomfortable. I can even remember thinking as a child, that officer is a dick while watching.
This needed to happen. It’s time.
