I wanted to give my readers a quick update. In my previous article I was asked if the Cornavirus or COVID-19 could be transmitted sexually. Since that article was published there have been medical journals released that suggest the virus may be present in semen of an infected cisgender male. That gives us some interesting things to think about. While not a traditional STI, this indicates that the virus can be spread sexually if exposed to ejaculate. However, if we are honest with ourselves, if a person is close enough to someone that they contract COVID through infected semen there is a good chance that they were also exposed to saliva or airborne droplets. Wearing condoms is not likely to be an easy solution.
The question now becomes HOW LONG is the virus present in the semen? Does it remain after the person is otherwise well? Zika virus can be present in semen for a little over a month in some cases. We simply do not know yet. COVID-19 is called a novel virus because it is new. This means we are learning about it as we go along. Science is fluid so the information that we have may change as we learn more. I will do my best to answer your questions with the most up to date information available.
We should not live in fear but remain cautious. Remember that this is not a political event. Protecting each other is a matter of human kindness. Stay well and take care of each other.
