2020 became the year of the streaming wars. With more people staying home due to the pandemic, entertainment became a key component during this stressful. And while the biggest casualty would be the streaming service Quibi, other services are fighting for new subscribers. With that said, a major rumor has dropped over the last 24 hours that may see two streaming giants combine into one.
Disney owns Hulu and launched Disney+ last year, and now talks are swirling about the two giants of streaming to combine into one. And for Disney, it may not be about the number of people subscribed to each service as much as it is about the shareholders.
From one standpoint, it makes sense to combine the services and have a giant platform. However, a big question will need to be answered if this happens. What happens to networks and shows not owned by the mouse that are part of the Hulu package? The merger could also mean prices dropping for the HULU service which is adding its second price hike in a year.
As of right now, there are just rumors, but there could be some validity to this story. If any news is released, we will have the update.
