For most of the year I have dreamed of the places I would visit. I would have skied down the slopes of the alps, or possibly ran with the bulls in Spain, taken in a parade in the city that never sleeps, or slept with a stranger in Vegas after losing all my money at the craps table. And the age-old question would enter my mind, what would I wear? Would I tend to wear something bright and colorful or would I have tried to live out my 90s Hot Topic goth fantasy? Reality is, I just stayed home and played with makeup because the only place I could travel to this year was my kitchen.
But that led me down a rabbit hole, I never thought I would go down in my life. Trying makeup brands. For most of my adult life, I bought my make up at Walmart. GASP! I lived in small towns most of my life, drug store brands would be the only thing on the shelves. Not saying that is a bad thing, but once you find something that lasts all day, your days of buying ELF are numbered. And I like ELF.
Over the next few months, I will be reviewing some of these products and trying to not fall victim to the beauty community BS. But with the holidays right around the corner, I thought it would be a good chance to discuss a brand or two that is affordable and will turn your black and white world into color.
I wanted to highlight one brand today. And before I start, this is not sponsored content. I found myself really loving this brand. Their products are pigmented to filth and affordable. A wonderful thing to have, especially in this economic climate.
The brand I am talking about is Kimchi Chic Beauty. The brand was created by the anime drag goddess and runner up on season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Kim Chi. And since her brand launched a year ago, she is releasing products that keep blowing me away.
I used Thailor Collection-Blush 4, a few weeks ago, and I treated it as if it were my normal blush, I buy from the Dollar Tree. I felt I had a future as a mall Santa. My cheeks were rosy. But I did start over, and a little goes a long way which is something I usually have an issue with. The same can be said for the eye shadows as well. A lot of color and your eyes will pop in ways that are only used in photoshop.
(Disclaimer: I had planned on doing photos for this article but tested positive for COVID. I have not felt my best, so please excuse me for the photos. But my profile photo I am wearing Kimchi Chic Beauty)
But the Thailor Collection is 15 each or 60 for the whole set.
As for eye shadows, after testing some of the more expensive brands, I found myself coming back to my Rainbow Sharts palette. And the price point for 18 colors cannot be beat. $28.
If you are looking for a makeup brand that feels expensive, this is it. If you are looking for a brand that is great for beginners, this is it. I have been searching for years to find a makeup brand and because I stepped out of my comfort zone, I have done just that.

And yes, this is just the beginning for our makeup reviews, we have a few brands coming up to kick off 2021 as well as some clothing.
