I am not sure how to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility this year. Last year, we shared some members of the community that have become some of the most powerful voices for the nation. But this year feel different. This year feels as if being kicked while down is not enough for some people. It feels as if certain states want to erase us from life.
I live in Arkansas and if you have watched the news lately or kept up on social media, Asa Hutchinson and the state legislature have put forth bills to harm the LGBTQ community especially the transgender community. I feel unwanted by the state I live in. I know there are great people who live here but if you look in the comments section of any news page, you are slapped in the face by reality. People wishing that the entire community just kill themselves, so they don’t have to deal with it. I am not sure how my life or anyone else’s interferes with Karen’s shitty life that is portrayed on Social media as perfect. But I digress.
This is for all the members of the community young to old. YOU ARE VALID. Do not let anyone else tell you how to live your life and I know that is easier said than done. And struggle will occur but take care of yourself first.
And I will scream this at the top of my lungs, TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS.
